Family

I've recently developed an interest in learning more about my family history. There are several books on getting started as well as local genealogy societies that offer information and guidance. The Internet has made it pretty easy to get started and find immediate results.

I'm really looking to do two things in relation to the family. One is build the "tree". This consists of identifying the lineage of my family as far back as possible.  The better the information (complete sources etc.) the more reliable it is for sharing as well as standing the test of time. The second element is documenting the family story. I look at this as a deep scrap booking exercise. The idea is to tell the story of as many family members as possible. As time moves forward, stories are lost if not captured.

As I move forward with this project, I realize all over again the complexity of family. No kidding, right. Being spread all over the country makes it tough, but busy schedules, work and conflict lead to time and relationships just slipping away. Before you realize it you have lost touch with whole branches of your family. I'm working to correct that. Reconnecting can be very rewarding - if you are in a similar situation give it a try!
